| Over the centuries, each symbol has been enriched in meaning with various analogies, and, from this, an archetype has been created, in other words, a cosmic force, a being endowed with particular qualitative powers that can influence the body, psyche and spirituality of those who enter in a symbolurgic syntony. This is true for a flag, its colors and crest, which awaken an identical patriotic feeling, thought and will in those who are in syntony with the meaning of the flag. The same is true of the Cross for Christians, the Square and the Compass for Masons, the Swastika for Buddhists, the Thyrsus for the Hermetists or the Pa-Kua of the Far East. A symbol works just by looking at it, even before its meaning is understood, as long as one has an affinity with it or considers it familiar. Its goal is didactic, because it shows the instruments of salvation through the encrypted signs. If we look at a sign with regard to its place in the Immensity then it is easy to think of ‘multiple states of the Universe, and their interdependent functions. The Everything is made up of physical and spiritual states, let us say, ‘planes’ – each reverberating with a particular symbol, or, even, with a constellation of symbols. The Man(*) is a symbol expressing all these planes, and, in their turn, the planes are the symbols of the Man. This is not just a theoretical interpretation but an experimental reality which for centuries has constituted a science with exact techniques: Symbolurgy, a very important and indispensable discipline fostering inner awakening, the birth and growth of the true Man and Woman, preparing them for the dignity and power of a Numen, and so, predestined to enter into the Communion or Pleroma of the other Numina. The symbol does not work only on individuals but also on the community of those who are initiated into the same belief and team work; for this, the ideogram is a fundamental part of cults and of liturgic and theurgic rituals.
The true esoteric schools, under the qualified guidance of Masters, help their members by using the transmuting force of symbolurgy, which acts on the body, psyche and spirit through the Initiation rite. A gesture, color, diagram, an iconographic scene, a word of symbolic content, changes the inner nature of a person, because the symbol has, in itself, something pure and perfect, which it transmits, by the laws of resonance, analogy or interdependence of the archetypal value of the symbols, to those who have in themselves something pure and perfect. Victory is conditioned by the adamantine will which is applied, at every moment, to the works of the moral, spiritual and biological transmutation, defined in Hermetic-Alchemical language as the ‘ Great Work’, whose working methods are perfectly clear in our ‘ Archeosophy ’, or, the Wisdom of the Arkè: the Science of the Principles. Among the many traditional symbols , there are some which are essential for inner birth and growth, for example: the sword, the cross, the cup, the level, the square and the compass, the pelican, the phoenix, the bow and arrow, the cubic stone, the rose, the lotus flower, the branched candelabrum, the bread and the wine, the Temple, etc. Even though the symbol is alive and potent from the moment it is conceived, it would be too simplistic and mistaken to hope for the benefits of its occult property without a preliminary ascetic, mystic and initiatic work of personal purification so as to open oneself to the illuminating action of the universal powers. |
