The ascent to the superior worlds is accompanied by the meeting with the infamous “Guardian of the Threshold”, one of the most threatening and important experiences of whoever undertakes the initiatic work, that the ancient Philosophers of Hermetism defined “Labors of Hercules”, according to the esoteric teachings of Greek Mythology.

Some maintain that there are two Guardians, the small and the big one. In reality, it is true there are these two fundamental custodians, but there exist as many guardians as there are doors of the cosmic planes, or, as there are passages from one world to another. Much has been spoken and written about these apparitions, frightening or wonderful, according to the cases, but not all the scholars of the “Sacred Science” have clear ideas on this matter.

 

The “Guardian of the Threshold” belongs to the world of the images of the hereafter: that hereafter which interpenetrates the world in which we live. This custodian can be seen by a dead person and also by a living person, as long as they are gifted with a double sight, with the third eye . It presents itself in two unusual circumstances:

 

1st)- In the case in which the Ego separates from the vehicles or energetic bodies and from the physical body, which must be considered mortal (mental body, emotional body, etheric body + physical or anatomic body). We know that the Ego is made up of a triad: Spirit , Emotive Soul and Erosdynamic Soul . The triad is immortal and has a recorder made of subtle mental matter, named “Causal Body” or “Body of Grace” or “Mirror of the Works”. In esoteric terms, it is said that the Guardian appears when the Triad separates from the Quaternary. It is obvious that the first apparition occurs when the Ego leaves its energetic bodies like the engine of a train that is uncoupled from four wagons.

 

2nd)-The second apparition of the “Guardian of the Threshold” occurs in another circumstance, which we will examine now: when the desires and the powers of passion are so intense that, when death arrives, the clothing of desire (Body of desire ) made of astral matter, resists in the emotional region (called in Sanskrit, Kâma Loka) which surrounds and penetrates the earth, and which is the sojourn of the ghosts. The sojourn of the ghosts is full of these Guardians that have their lawful owners, and present serious dangers and deceptions for the lovers of séances who are not protected by the archeosophical rules.

 

Many times, false spiritualistic entities manifest themselves. They pretend to be a given person, while in reality, they are the Guardians of these persons, the ghostly, energetic guardians that are neither their real Ego nor their good or bad spiritual guardian.

 

If the Bible is against necromantic practice, and the Bible transmits the opinion and experience of the Prophets , there is a sound reason, and we think we have made it clear explaining, in the booklet on the superior medium powers, how to communicate with the authentic Egos.

 

When the Ego reincarnates itself to continue its evolutive way aimed at total perfection and the attainment of all the Initiations, and descends again from its own sky (plane) in which it finds itself, then the Guardian, that is, the “ Body of desires” (Forma cupiditatis et desiderii), attracted by the affinity towards the Ego to whom it belongs because it belonged to it, and who re-enters on earth from its journey, presents itself and claims its right of ownership. Naturally, its influence is harmful, obsessive.

 

Many mad people are victims of the “Guardian of the Threshold”, that is not a spirit but a ghost, an energetic charge of base instincts. Its visibility is possible when one becomes free of it, or when one is subjugated by it, because it objectifies itself, it presents itself like
another “self”.

 

The reincarnating Ego dons new bodies: mental , astral , etheric and physical, with the vital energy, but the Guardian hangs on to them like a parasite, strengthens the passionate element and gives them a deadly power.

The Guardian of the Threshold is a precise automatic warner to show that our personality is not clean, is not naked. It reminds you that you must destroy the old man, to substitute it with the New man, in accordance with the words of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (IV, 22-24): “Strip yourself of the old man which is corrupted by following the deceiving passions.... to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new Man who is created in the image of God in the justice and in the holiness that originates from the Truth”.
