Avatara: literally it means ‘descent’, coming from the root of the Indian Sanskrit avatr. It is the same as the Hindu and esoteric Christian concept of ‘incarnation’ of a God in different forms, some of which have already appeared or will present themselves, periodically, with the specific aim of saving humanity.

Therefore, the Avatâra or Avatâr are the Messiahs, the Saviors from the consequences of ignorance and sin. But rather than reincarnations of God they are selected human bodies, in which enters a powerful concentration of compassionate and merciful ‘special divine spiritual presence’.

The last Avatâra, in order of arrival, was Jesus Christ. He must return, as He promised, to judge the living and the dead. In Hebrew, Jesus is Jeshua = God with us, and Christ = anointed, messiah, king sent by God, or King and Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek.

The previous Avatars were many. One of these (with an earthly existence similar to that of Christ) was born 3,000 years before Jesus in India, at Madura, to the virgin Devaki, according to Brahmin (priestly caste of Brahma, the creator) chronology. His biographical profile recalls that of Christ and the description is handed down in the heroic poem Bhagavad-Gita.

Whoever the Avatâra are, in the past or those to come, they are always the same spirit in action according to the immanence of the transcendent God. When the time was ripe, two thousand or so years ago, the man Jesus, the historical Christ, was penetrated by the supra-historical Christ, living yesterday, today, and for all eternity, identical to the sacramental Christ who is alive in the hearts of all those who love Him, be they the hearts of Christians, Hindus or Muslims.

The Avatâra, also intended as prophet, is God who comes to us in His Messiah, as well as remaining in an inaccessible transcendence.
